Living Beyond Yourself

This is the title of a Beth Moore Bible Study. The women at church used it 3 or 4 years ago. The introductory foundation statement:

Christ in us not only guarantees life in Heaven but also Christ in us grants the astounding invitation to live beyond ourselves on earth.

Philippians 3:12-14 "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. I don't count myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

I have thought lately of the serenity prayer. "God help me to accept the things I cannot change, to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

There are things I cannot change, prayers that have not been answered as yet. But I have to learn to set aside fretting about them. God has blessed me to make some progress there but I have a need to keep working at it. The need is to labor and find out what is the mission God has for today.

Dear God, This is a new day, fresh with no mistakes in it. Guide me to what is my mission for today. May I go in your strength to accomplish what I cannot do in mine.

  1. I think it was Susan Whisnant this week that said she had been praying and worrying over some family issues and she was talking to her Mom about them. Her Mom said, "are you praying?" and she relpied "yes". "Well are you worrying?"...."yes"...."Then you need to stop praying". She was like "WHAT!?!" Her advice was, if you're praying and trusting God to take care of it, then why are you stilling worrrying about it? If you can't trust God, don't pray.

Your comment about the serenity prayer and learning to set asaid fretting about them. :o) Thanks for sharing. Love ya.

  2. Thanks Julie. :>) How encouraging!
